Why Should You Get Your Toyota Serviced at the Dealership?
The “Maintenance Indicator Light” icon has illuminated on your dashboard, and you begin to think what to do next. Some people start to think up some rudimentary math in their head about what this next service will cost, while others consider waiting another week before getting the service done.
It’s no secret that some people have had rough experiences with mechanics. Some of the technical jargon is hard to digest, and in the end it just seems to end up costing you money. As a result, many people take their car to a family friend, a trusted technician who can at least give you the peace of mind that you’re not being taken advantage of.
However, if you drive a Toyota, there’s little to be worried about as Toyota dealerships offer top-notch service facilities for your vehicle.
“Toyota dealerships are the only place where owners can find service technicians certified and trained by Toyota,” says Sara Lara, from Toyota Parts and Service, Marketing. “Toyota Service Centers are also the only place that provides a guarantee of Genuine Toyota Parts. These unique features are not present at independent repair facilities.”
TOOLS AND TRAINING TO GET THE JOB DONE
Toyota Service Centers require a serious commitment at the dealer level, corporate level and on a per-employee basis. For starters, dealerships have tons of high-tech tools and equipment that you’ll find only at a Toyota Service Center.
“Each dealership has invested thousands of dollars on specific service tools,” explains Jim Daher, a Field Technical Specialist for Toyota in the Los Angeles Region. “They have a responsibility to maintain a certain level of equipment in order to service Toyotas specifically.”
That means that the dealership is extremely motivated to service your Toyota vehicle. That’s a huge investment that shows the level of dedication that you might not get in every other mechanic’s shop.
Additionally, the technicians that work at these service centers are specially trained to take advantage of these tools, and are well versed in the world of Toyota vehicles.
“Being involved with Toyota for almost forty years, I have seen the development of Toyota’s technical training program,” says Daher. “It encompasses a number of different concerns, and virtually every component on a car is covered in one type of training or another.”
He outlines that Toyota’s training is much more robust than the training you’d find in almost any other service bay.
“There's an additional requirement to ensure that every technician is ASE Certified, this also provides technicians outside certification that is recognized industry-wide.”
Daher also says that there’s no specialization when it comes to Toyota technicians. Every technician is encouraged to learn a number of disciplines so that they can work on any Toyota that comes through the service bay. A Master Technician and Master Diagnostic Technician are the two highest positions in the service center and are individuals who have mastered every discipline possible.
When you bring your car into a Toyota Service Center, the vehicle is checked into a national database to quickly determine if there are any outstanding service bulletins that may need to be performed.
That means you don’t have to do any homework before arriving at the dealership to see if your car is affected by a recall or needs any other kind of work.
“TechStream is the Toyota diagnostic tool which gathers data from the vehicle and reports some of that data back to Toyota,” explains Daher. “TechStream also contains the latest repair manuals, wiring diagrams and service bulletins.”
There is also a ‘Health Check’ function which allows the technician the ability to determine if there are any problems lingering in the background. These kinds of systems are proprietary to Toyota, meaning you won’t get that function at any other service center.
KEEP YOUR TOYOTA RUNNING THE WAY IT WAS INTENDED TO
One major concern about taking your car to a dealership for service is not knowing what needs to be done and the cost to get it done.
Thanks to the recommended maintenance schedule on each Toyota vehicle, you can plan out what needs to be done at each service interval and have an idea of the cost ahead of time. Your Toyota Service Center knows this schedule best and is the best equipped to handle each vehicle’s needs in terms of parts, fluids and know-how.
“Each vehicle has its own specific maintenance guide, customized for the vehicles unique needs based on things such as the type of transmission, engine, and other components,” says Daher.
Taking your car to another mechanic, who may not have all the right parts or oils for example, means that you’re missing out on key parts of the vehicle maintenance, and in the end that may compromise the quality of your vehicle.
Finally the parts and components used in a Toyota Service Center are genuine, certified Toyota parts. They’re guaranteed to work properly in your vehicle, and in some cases are the only items that will fit the bill. Getting generic, non-specific parts or oils for your vehicle could cause issues.
If you’re a new Toyota owner, you also may benefit from the no-cost ToyotaCare maintenance service which is only available at Toyota Service Centers for the first 2 years or 25,000 miles of your vehicle, whichever comes first.
If you’re looking for the best care for your Toyota vehicle, you’ll only find it in one location, a Toyota Service Center. It’s the only place you can find the right technology and parts for your car, as well as trained staff to work on your vehicle. It’s the best way to keep your Toyota running strong while maintaining the quality and reliability that you expect from a Toyota.
