The Toyota Prius Plug-In may not be available in Florida for at least another year-and-a-half, but Toyota Motor Sales U.S.A. Inc. is launching an online ordering website for interested customers, according to a company press release.

The priority registration system, which will launch on Earth Day April 22 at Toyota Prius Plug-in Hybrid Vehicle (Prius PHV), will give customers first access to the online ordering system when it becomes available later this year.
The Prius Plug-In, a first of its kind for Toyota, operates as both a hybrid and an electric vehicle. Depending on driving conditions, the Prius Plug-in can be driven about 13 miles on battery power at speeds up to 60 miles per hour. Its compact Lithium-ion battery takes about three hours to charge on 110 volts and 1.7 hours on 220 volts.

After the battery power is depleted the Prius Plug-In performs like a third-generation Prius, that gets 50 miles per gallon.

The Prius Plug-in will begin arriving at Toyota dealers in 15 states in spring 2012, with a nationwide roll-out the following year.

The first 15 states are: Arizona, California, Connecticut, Hawaii, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia and Washington.
