Toyota Prius c Leaked Brochure Reveals All, Including 100-HP, 1.4L Hybrid Engine | AutoGuide.com News
from car scoop New Toyota Prius C: Leaked Brochure Reveals Standalone Small Hybrid Hatch - CarscoopAs rumored, Toyota’s upcoming Prius c model doesn’t look all that much like the concept car. Too bad.
A leaked dealer brochure from Japan has revealed exactly what the newest member of the Prius family will look like (at least in Japan), not to mention what sort of powertrain it will receive. Compared to the cars like the Mazda2 I3 SkyActiv, it is powered by a 1.4-liter 4-cylinder engine mated to Toyota’s Hybrid Synergy Drive system with 74-hp at 4800 rpm and 82 lb-ft of torque at 4800 rpm from the gasoline engine, while the electric motor adds-on 61-hp and 125 lb-ft for a total of 100-hp.
Fuel economy numbers released for Japan include a rating of 35.4 km/L (roughly 83.3 mpg or 2.8l/100km) on one driving cycle and 40 km/L (roughly 94 mpg or 2.5L/100 km) on another. Those numbers won’t hold true for the U.S., but with some rough calculations this will put the Prius C a few ticks ahead of the standard 50-mpg Prius on the EPA cycle.
Size wise, the Prius C is the smallest of the Toyota hybrids, measuring 157.3-inches in length – about 4-inches longer than the new Yaris.
Judging from the brochure Toyota is looking to offer the Prius c with a Scion-like array of in-house aftermarket accessories, ranging from new wheels, to seat materials and body kits, adding some flare to this Gen-Y marketed hybrid sub-compact.
The Prius c is expected to be unveiled at the Detroit Auto Show this January.
Production model for the Japanese domestic market will come with a petrol-electric hybrid drivetrain with 100 HP
A brochure for the upcoming JDM (Japanese Domestic Market) Toyota Prius c has been leaked.
The Prius c was previewed with a concept model last January in Detroit. Now we get a sneak peek at the production model ahead of its official debut at the Tokyo motor show in December.
The brochure provides details on what will be the smallest member of the Prius range of vehicles, which Toyota is introducing at a pretty brisk pace. The Prius c will be a compact urban-tourer that measures 3,995 mm (157 inches) in length, 1,695 mm (66.7 inches) in width and 1,445 mm (57 inches) in height.
Power comes from a petrol-electric hybrid drivetrain which couples a 1.4 liter unit with 74 PS (54 kW / 73 hp) and 111 Nm (82 lb-ft) of torque to an electric motor producing 61 PS (45 kW / 60 hp) and 169 Nm (125 lb-ft). Transmission is a CVT but maximum combined output, though, is only 100 PS (74 kW / 99 hp).
The Prius c's fuel-economy rating looks good but standards are different in Japan so these aren't the numbers you will be seeing in the North American and European variants. In Japan, Toyota claims the Prius c will have a rating of 35.4 km/liter or 2.8 liters/100 km (83.3 mpg US).
The Toyota Prius c will hold its North American introduction at the Detroit show in January. We expect the European debut to follow later in March at the Geneva auto salon.
