Toyota and The Audubon Society want to encourage drivers to take the scenic route this summer. Its “Exit the Highway” campaign highlights scenic drives to natural attractions in over 60 cities and offers the chance to win a free Prius V.
“What lies just beyond a highway exit can be a very rich, memorable experience in nature,”said Pat Pineda, Group Vice President, National Philanthropy and the Toyota Foundation.
The day-trip to a natural attraction is a longstanding weekend tradition for American families but rising gas prices discourage the practice. Toyota hopes its fuel-efficient cars can help bring it back. Drivers who set up an account at Exit the Highway are entered to win the hybrid that features more than 50 percent more cargo volume than a standard Prius. There are over 100 attractions that include nature preserves, safari parks and a “love motel for insects.” These destinations have Google Maps routes that feature roads less traveled selected for their natural landscape.
