The Toyota Prius Plug-in could be the solution, as the new model has come up trumps in the large family car section of the Next Green Car Awards 2012.
The newest addition to the range, the Prius Plug-in, is available in the UK from July 9 and it was judged among a selection of 26 of the latest and greenest vehicles, all of which were rated on innovation, value for money, driving feel and design.
The Green Car Rating (GCR) allows Next Green Car to rank the best low-emission models on the market and its managing editor, Dr Ben Lane, said this year's awards take into account two huge factors in green car design - downsizing and electrification. He said that more than half of the winning models in the awards were either fully electric, hybrids or start-stop.
Dr Lane said the Prius Plug-in can do more than 15 miles without emissions and "offers the benefits of an electric vehicle, but without the limitations of battery range."
