On Sunday August 12th Toyota will be set up at Toronto's Yonge and Dundas Square offering members of the public a chance to drive the Prius Plug-In. It will be next-to a display of the Canadian-made RAV4 EV.
The car is not yet on sale in Canada but will be later this year. It is already available in US and European markets. The Prius Plug-In can travel up to 25 km and reach speeds of up to 100 km/h on electric power. The car switches to hybrid mode once it has travelled about 25km. This should aleivate, range-anxiety as the car charges off the energy produced by the gasoline engine. With a 90 minute charging time from a 220v outlet, the plug-in Prius charges faster than any other plug-in vehicle. This is likely thanks to the limited range.
With a 100v outlet it takes 90 minutes to charge. “We’re pleased Toyota has chosen to showcase the RAV4 EV” noted Cara Clairman, Plug’n Drive Ontario’s President and CEO.
