Bought a gen I with 148K on it for $500, and it has the inverter failure warning light on. Just looking for some help on where to start looking for answers. Previous owner said that the light suddenly came on and the car stopped, which to me means a broken wire or burned out part rather than a slowly decaying problem like corrosion on connections. Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.

Screwing with the electronics on these cars can be both expensive and dangerous unless you really know what you are doing.

I suggest that given your minimal investment so far, you should spend the $100 or so for a Toyota dealer shop diagnostic.
