Fuse Names

I would like to disable the red BRAKE light in the upper left corner of the dashboard. Anybody have a clue whether I could pull a fuse to do this.

By the way I have a problem that is causing this light to come on but it's nothing significant and I can't get a safety inspection approved as long as that BRAKE light is on.

Thanks in advance.

I don't think anyone would agree that turning off a safety warning in order to pass a safety inspection is a good idea.

You won't KNOW for sure what is causing it until you get it FIXED.
Please do try not to be short sighted here.
Don't be so stuffy, Easy Rider. I know exactly why it's on and it is not a serious problem. I need to pass the safety inspection in order to renew my annual state registration so that I can drive the car legally to a mechanic to fix the basic problem. I'm currently trying to find that mechanic who will fix the problem for a reasonable price. So far, my local Toyota dealer wants about twice as much to fix the problem as the car is worth if it were fixed. I've gone to Toyota headquarters for help on the problem that should have been covered by a recall for which I never received notice. So I am certainly not being shortsighted. By the way, if you know how I can turn off the BRAKE red light, PLEASE let me know.

Oh, it's only the brakes.
Certainly couldn't be an important problem. o_O

Good luck.

P.S. It is NOT "illegal" for you to drive with a warning light ON, as long as you have basic functionality in the brakes AND your inspection is not expired.
You say you know what the problem is but you also say that it is expensive to fix.

what is the problem?

are you in a mk2 or mk3 ?
PaulDM, according to our Toyota Dealer, the problem is a leaky (internal) Brake Actuator Assembly. So far it drives fine and we limit to very short and cautious trips. It's a 2005. Original price to fix by the dealer was $3200. Service Manager finally agreed to fix it for $2360. Even that price includes at least $1200 in labor!!! I'm still trying to get "warranty" coverage or a cheaper shop but the immediate aim is to turn off the red BRAKE light and get the safety inspection approved. BTW. State registration expires 5/30/23.The red light is the only concern the safety inspector has. If the red BRAKE light is turned off he will give me pass on the safety inspection and then I can register the car. Vroom offered $1459 assuming everything is OK (which it's not of course). I've about decided no one here knows how to turn off the red BRAKE light.

Speaking as an owner of a 2005 and 2007 gen2’s
You know that your prius is “brake by wire” right?
There is no physical connection between your brake pedal and the brake system.
The brake actuator IS your brakes. Disabling this warning light for a safety check is tantamount to cutting the brake line and saying “things are ok“.

I don't think he has really thought this through well enough.

But......is that really totally true ? What if there is a total electrical failure......no brakes ??

For that reason, I thought that the steering and brakes had to function on their own......engine on or off and electrical power or not. Power "assist" but not power operated.
Maybe that's not true anymore.
Agreed. In the event of “total electric failure” power steering ceases ( hard steer) and brakes would fail yes. You would have to resort to the physical hand brake on the left foot. I have never experienced such a dramatic event though in 500,000 miles in my gen2’s

gen 2 and beyond throttle by wire / brake by wire. Steering is power assist.
