So my daughters 2009 Prius 100 K mi was just declared dead/needs new engine. The mechanic we took it to -who also sold us the car says Jiffy Lube is responsible as they put 0-20 w oil in and that it should have had 5w 30. I dont know enough here, but is this accurate? Should I be all over Jiffy Lube on this? Looks like from research the correct oil is the 5w 30 but even if they used the 0/20 w could that have caused the engine failure? Help!

Total and complete BS.

I think you should have it towed to a different shop for a second opinion.

Anyone who pedals the idea that a slight change in oil viscosity will "kill" an engine is NOT to be trusted.
