I have a 2006 Prius. It only has 130,000 miles and had a new battery installed about 7 years ago - right at about 90,000 miles. It has been well maintained but about 3 months ago the AC went out. I took it to a Toyota dealer and then to another car repair place and have been told the problem is an evaporator coil and that to repair it the dashboard has to be removed and it would cost approximately $1800 to repair. My husband and I are trying to figure out if hit is worth it to repair it. We have also been told not to run the automatic climate system due to this problem. Any thoughts?

ALL of what you have been told is likely true.

BUT if the evaporator is plugged up.....OR it has a leak and all of the refrigerant has leaked out you might now need a new compressor too.
That might be why the estimate is so high......or it might end up being a LOT more than 1800.

I would never take that kind of gamble on a car that old with that mileage.
