For 2013 the Toyota Avalon gets a full redesign including a first-ever hybrid option that remained under speculation until a company spokesman confirmed it with us today.
Less of a surprise and more of an affirmation on something we would have expected, the 2.5-liter Atkinson cycle system that is used in the Camry Hybrid and the Lexus ES Hybrid will be make it into the full-size sedan.
The hybrid drivetrain puts out a combined 200 hp and 0-60 times are estimated to be around 8.2 seconds and will be capable of driving up to a mile in pure hybrid mode, though only under 25 mph. Toyota also expects 39mpg on the highway and 40 in the city.
