Default Charaging?

Will the house battery charge the engine start battery, with everything shut off?

I ask because my start battery went Dead after a long period when a door was left open on.

NO.

There is no "start battery".

The high voltage hybrid battery actually starts the engine.
The 12 v. battery just runs lights and computers.

The 12 V. battery is only charged when the car is running (in "ready" mode).

Thanks! Sorry to be so late in thanking you. I had trouble signing in! My fault!

If the 12 V battery is dead, and the computer(s) or lights are not powered...how can the dash light up?

I love this auto...but it sure makes me feel dumb! <G>

Well it won't if the 12 V is completely DEAD.

But the dash components take a LOT less power than the computers and the dash often is the last thing to go dark.

P.S. I bet you are an RV owner.
There is no "house" battery in a hybrid.
The BIG battery is called the hybrid battery or HV battery or traction battery.

Ah yes...I've owned RV's for years! The only reason I bought the Prius was because it had an A/C and heater that you could run all night! In about one hour I can convert my Prius into a camping R/V with a stove, fridge, etc. I love it!

However, I found that the Prius was also the best car I've driven in years! I've just about stopped driving my other Toyota. Thanks, Bill
