Default Replacing battery cells

I have 2001 prius that is bringing up a P3006 code. The toyota dealer says a new battery. However, I would like to if it only needs a couple new cells firsts. Does anyone have and tips and advise on replacing battery cells?

I suggest that is NOT a good route to take.

ALL of the cells are now about 15 years old.
It is likely that if you just replace a few "weak" cells, you will be doing that every few months pretty much forever.

AND....there are some dangers involved and special charging equipment is needed to really do it right.
If you have no previous experience with electricity and electronics, this is probably NOT a good place to start.

You likely would be MUCH better off searching for a rebuilt battery; one where they changed out ALL of the cells.
