Default Warranty Battery Replacement

I have a 2006 Honda Civic Hybrid. It's on it's second hybrid battery and that one is dying too. It's still under warranty for the hybrid battery but it's not completely dead so Honda won't replace it yet. It only takes a surface charge, discharges to almost zero after a couple of days of non-use, and my mileage is down about 17%. How has everyone's experience been with Toyota and hybrid battery replacement? I'd like to buy a Prius Prime but am concerned about Toyota's responsiveness to warranty claims.

Get out your warranty booklet and call Toyota directly.
Some dealers know what their responsibilities are and some don't.
Good luck.

(Edit) Sorry, make that Honda.

In general, Toyota has been good about warranty battery replacements......but some dealers need a little "tweek" from the factory to do the right thing.

My experience with Honda is quite different however.
They tend to go by the strict letter of their warranty and if it is written such that a part needs to fail completely, you are pretty much screwed.

For instance, even though US law says they must warranty emission control parts for a certain length of time, Honda says that only applies if the failure causes the emissions to be out of spec.....IN A LOCALITY WHERE EMISSIONS TESTING IS MANDATORY.

This is generally bad advice.

If the age and use has caused more than one cell to fail, others can't be far behind.
Unless you enjoy removing the HV battery every month or so for the next year to replace failed cells, you are MUCH better off getting a replacement battery assembly where ALL of the cells have been replaced.
